NEXUS Joint Enrollment Center Opened in Lansdowne

Alexandria Bay, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials announced  the opening of a joint NEXUS Enrollment Center located in Lansdowne, Ontario, opposite of the Alexandria Bay Port of Entry.
The new enrollment center is designed to make obtaining a NEXUS border-crossing card easy and convenient for nearby residents on both sides of the border. The new center will compliment the existing center in Champlain, N.Y. to service the northern areas of New York State. The center will also provide current members an additional location to renew their application, which must be done every five years.

NEXUS is a joint CBP-Canada Border Services Agency program that both governments implemented to enhance border security while simplifying border crossings for pre-approved, low-risk travelers. More than 370,000 members participate in the program. The Champlain NEXUS enrollment center has enrolled more than 4,800 individuals and this new facility will provide increased enrollment capacity and accessibility for travelers to gain a Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) compliant document.

WHTI was implemented on June 1 and requires U.S. and Canadian citizens, age 16 and older to present a valid, acceptable travel document that denotes both identity and citizenship when entering the U.S. by land or sea. WHTI-compliant documents include a passport, U.S. passport card, Trusted Traveler Program card (NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST) or an enhanced driver’s license. Children under the age of 16 can present an original or copy of their birth certificate. Visit the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative page for more information. Notarization is a formality often required for documents which are to be used overseas, or for certifying document copies. Once a document has been notarized by a Notary Public, and if it is to be used overseas, it may need to be apostilled. This means that the Notary's signature and seal are certified by the Government. The Government will then attach an apostille to the document. Once a document has been notarized and apostilled, it then may need to be authenticated by the Consulate of the country in which it will be used, if the country is not party to the Hague Convention.
